The Apostle Paul clearly tells the church at Ephesus that God gave [to the church] the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the shepherds and teachers (that is the pastors), to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ... (Ephesians 4:12). In real simple terms, that means that my job as your pastor, is to equip you, as the body of Christ, to do the work of ministry. God has called me to shepherd the flock at West Canton and that means I get to teach you and train you for ministry! And I love it!!!!
If you know me at all, you know that I love teaching and equipping; so you know that I am very excited about scheduling some dedicated time just for this purpose. That's what we're going to be doing with our new Equipping Nights. I plan to offer one equipping night per month on Sunday nights. The aim will be to take a different topic, disicpline, or need, to teach and train the whole body on. Some of the Equipping Nights that I have planned already are: Sunday School, Evangelism, Discipleship, Being a Generous Church, Marriage, and more.
This coming Sunday night, October 7th, will be our first Equipping Night, and I'm calling it "Being a Welcoming Church." Most churches believe that they are welcoming to visitors, but in truth, they're not. I want our congregation to be amongst the churches that actually are welcoming to our guests. I can't wait for us to come together Sunday night and talk about some simple ways we can be even more welcoming to our community! Please plan to come and encourage one another to come.
